Can't get rid of 'disconnect from server' box

When I am on the internet a box keeps on popping up asking if I want to disconnect from the server. It's very annoying and my ISP is no help. How can I get rid of it?

You must have Windows configured to disconnect if the connection is idle, although we have sometimes found the box popping up even if the connection is busy. This area of Windows is a mess. There are actually two different places where this automatic disconnection can be set up, so you will need to experiment to find the setting that stops the annoying box popping up. Alternatively you can try our tip Keep your internet connection alive

To get to the settings open Control Panel, then open Internet Options. Under Dial-up Settings select your ISP from the list and click Settings. On the Settings dialog box you will find another panel entitled Dial-up Settings. Click Advanced. Here you will find settings for disconnecting the line if the connection is idle for a period, and for disconnecting if the connection is no longer needed. Clear or change these settings as appropriate.

The other autodisconnect setting is part of the modem properties. To get to it, repeat the steps described but click the Properties button instead of Advanced. On the next dialog box, below the name of your modem, click Configure. When the modem properties appear click the Connection tab. Change or clear the option 'Disconnect a call if idle for more than x mins'.
